Due to Track and School Osman and I were negligent on posting updates. During our presentation we will be going over dates that we got things done. So we will be covering all the updates that should have been posted before now during the presentation.
Osman and I have gone through all the steps necessary to have the race. Unfortunately we have come to realize we made a big miscalculation in terms of the necessary funds needed and the time needed to make the race successful. We have learned a lot from this experience. We are now beginning to work on our presentation for the Capstone Committee. I can not speak for Osman but I plan to use what I have learned to organize a race later in my life.
Getting in contact with sponsors to help pay for the clock and bibs. In contact with Team and Training. Once we get our sponsors we will fill out the paper we have to with the events coordinator, Mrs. Short. However, Osman and I have states on the mandatory Capstone meeting on June 2nd. So our capstone might potentially not be able to happen. Osman is also getting in touch with the sheriffs department.
Osman and I met with our adviser today. He went over with us what processes we will have to take to get ready for the race. We also decided on a date for the race but have to run it through our principle to see if it is acceptable.
My Senior Capstone Project will be a 5 kilometer race to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. I have many reasons why I am interested in doing this. The biggest reason is because I lost one of my grandfathers to Leukemia when I was younger. A second reason I am interested in doing this sort of fundraiser is because I am a runner. I run for my high school's varsity Cross Country and Track and Field teams. I will be organizing this race with a classmate and teammate, Osman Humeida.
For my Senior Capstone Project I wanted to do something that would benefit others. Growing up I raced Fundraiser 5ks all of the time. They always raised a lot of money for their organizations. That is why a fundraiser race would be a great way to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Our first step would be to talk with our mentor Brent Miller, the athletic director at our school, about how to properly organize and set up a race. Then we would contact potential sponsors to help promote the race and possibly help with some of the expenses. Some of the expenses may include bibs and chips, a timing system, course markers, and possibly shirts for competing in the race. We would contact Team in Training, a running organization that raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We would also contact Potomac River Running, a local running company that sponsors races and helps out local High School Cross Country and Track and Field Teams. Then we would set up a website specifically for the race. The website would have dates, locations, an online registration link and a PDF registration form, and other general information about the race. We would also have to find a location, and map out a course, for the race. Depending on the location, we would have to contact local police about helping out with traffic. We would hold this race within the extra weeks we got off early from school. The packet pickup, picking up bibs and chips, would be in the days before the race. We would spend the months between now and the race gathering all the things we need for the race and promoting the race. This project will help me grow in numerous ways. My communication and organizational schools will improve. I will also learn how to communicate with businesses and learn how to negotiate with them, which is a necessary skill in today's world. After this is all over, hopefully I will have positively been able to impact people's lives. This project relates to my future because I hope to be able to continue to organize these kind of races in the future. |
